Valldemossa, on the uppermost part of Mallorca, is only a 15-20 minute drive from Palma in the direction of the Tramuntana Mountains. Literally fused into the mountains, its cobblestone streets, all pedestrian; its enchanting stone houses and its rich cultural heritage make it one of the most beautiful towns in Mallorca. Polichs composer Frédéric Chopin and French writer George Sand spent the winter of 1838/39 at the Royal Carthusian Monastery of Valldemossa, ocuppying cell number 4.Today, people from all over the world visit the Chopin Museum,the Monastery and its gardens. Valldemossa’s picturesque streets, full of shops, boutiques, cafés and restaurants are bountiful. It is noted for its broad range of handicrafts and fine lace. A delicious local specialty is its potatoe ‘coca’, or bun, and in summer its almond smoothies. On Sundays a colourful open market crowds its streets, in which you can taste local fruits and vegetables, cheese, Iberian ham and unique pastries. Valldemossa is under 2 km from the Coast, with serene coves such as Cala Sa Marina at the Port of Valldemossa. To live in this town is a true privilege, being one of the most valued zones in Mallorca.
