Port Andratx: from Fishing Village to Real Estate Hotspot
Originally a little fishing port, Port Andratx is now one of Mallorca’s real estate hotspots. It attracts celebrities from the worlds of politics, economics and show business. The place first began to be developed in the mid 20th century around an existing natural harbour dating back to the 2nd century. Through to the 7th century the harbour was often raided by pirates from North Africa so many of its inhabitants went to live 5 kilometres inland in the town of Andratx. It was not until the mid 7th century that a watchtower was built in Port Andratx, leading to a reduction in the number of attacks and the first fishermen settlers in Port Andratx.
Today, the picturesque fishing village is famous for its deluxe properties, select tourism and superb sailing club, the “Club de Vela”, and it has a reputation for being one of the loveliest marinas in the Mediterranean. Port Andratx still operates as a fishing port and almost every day over 10 boats unload their fish at the port fish market.
Prime location in the southwest of Mallorca
Port Andratx stands on the far southwestern tip of Mallorca, just 30 minutes by car from the capital Palma. Its natural harbour lies at the foot of the Tramuntana mountains, whose bay forms part of a marine nature reserve dotted with multiple coves like Cala Llamp, Cala Moragues and Cala d’Egos. Port Andratx is divided into different residential areas: Cala Moragues and Cala Marmacen, both southwest facing; La Mola peninsula with views of the port and open sea; Cala Llamp in a south-facing cove; and Montport, behind the marina.
Luxury Lifestyle in authentic Mediterranean surroundings
This privileged natural harbour and fishing port features numerous restaurants specializing in Mediterranean and international cuisine, in addition to boutiques and select galleries. As a result, gourmets and art and nature enthusiasts can all find fascinating places to stop off as they stroll along the attractive waterfront promenade, just a short distance away from numerous different sandy beaches and golf courses. This charming place constitutes a spectacular setting for the modern apartment complexes and villas that overlook Port Andratx, Dragonera Island (part of a nature reserve), the Tramuntana mountains and the open sea. These benefits and other additional ones make Port Andratx a very popular choice for those in search of a Majorcan property able to meet all their needs.
Port Andratx is one of the best places in Mallorca to have a property. Indeed, it is one of the most sought-after locations in the southwest of the island. The Tramuntana foothills and area that flanks the port are mainly dotted with high-priced luxury villas and exclusive apartment complexes. New developments like New Folies or Amber Village are particularly popular. These combine the privacy of individual luxury villas with the benefits of communal services and facilities. Buying a property in Port Andratx is considered to be a good solid investment, with all the benefits associated with an exclusive second home in Mallorca. Port Andratx is one of the most expensive areas on the island. On average, apartments cost between 600,000 and 800,000 euros, while the average price of a villa can be over 4,500,000 euros.
